The Tokyo Marathon is one of the six Abbott World Marathon Majors and the first of the spring season. The 2026 edition takes 39,000 runners (38,500 full marathon, 500 in the 10.7 km race) through central Tokyo from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building to the finish line near Tokyo Station. For coaches with clients chasing the Six Star medal, Tokyo is a cornerstone goal race.

Entry is lottery-based and opens mid-year for the following March. Charity and qualifying-time slots also available. Expo held in Tokyo the days before the race.

Haneda (HND) and Narita (NRT) both serve Tokyo. The start line is at Shinjuku station area; the finish is near Tokyo Station. Book hotels 4-6 months ahead — spring is peak season. Late February to early March weather is cool, typically 5-12°C on race day.
