HYROX World Championships Stockholm 2026: Format, Qualifiers, and What to Watch

HYROX World Championships Stockholm 2026 (June 18-21): full format breakdown, new NPI qualifying system, 20 Elite Relay nations, and what this weekend's New York results reveal about contenders.

Venue and general format

In 13 days, Stockholm's Strawberry Arena will host the world's best HYROX athletes for four days of competition (June 18-21, 2026). This is the event of the year in the HYROX circuit — a qualification threshold only the top 0.5% of global athletes reach.

The Worlds format is structurally identical to regular events: 8 functional work stations alternating with 8 one-kilometer running segments (8 km of running and approximately 800 functional movement reps total). What changes at Worlds is the density and quality of the field.

The new 2026 qualification system: the NPI

For the 2026 season, HYROX introduced the National Performance Index (NPI) for Worlds qualification. This is a significant departure from the previous system.

How the NPI works: each nation is ranked by aggregating the top 5 Singles results from its top 2 men and top 2 women over the season. Qualifying nations send Elite Relay teams composed of their best national athletes.

20 teams will compete in the Elite Relay at Worlds: Sweden (host nation, automatic qualification) + 19 nations qualifying via NPI. This is the first year the NPI has been applied — a change that professionalizes the team dimension of the sport.

Divisions and categories

The HYROX Worlds covers the full competitive spectrum:

Open divisions: Singles Men, Singles Women, Mixed Doubles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles. Age groups: 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55+ (men and women). Adaptive division: Athletes with physical disabilities — a division that grows each year and represents one of the format's most compelling aspects.

What the New York results reveal

Last weekend's HYROX New York event (and the ongoing June 5-7 event) provide the most recent form data. Morgan Schulz's 01:05:01 and Dylan Scott's 00:55:44 place them among the realistic podium favorites for Stockholm.

Thirteen days out from Worlds, most qualified athletes are in their final volume reduction phase. HYROX Worlds are won in the 6-8 weeks of preparation before — not in the final two weeks. New York results are therefore reliable form indicators for Stockholm.

The question for watchers: which nation produces the most top-3 qualifiers across categories? Historically Germany and the US dominate. In 2026, Australian and British athletes have made significant strides.
