Stockholm for the first time

The HYROX World Championships 2026 will be held at Strawberry Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, June 18-21, 2026. This is the first time Worlds have been hosted in Scandinavia, and the second consecutive edition outside Hamburg, where the event ran from 2017 to 2024.

Stockholm was chosen for its capacity to host a large-scale event, with a 13,000-seat arena configurable for HYROX competition, and for its strong Scandinavian athlete base, a region where HYROX has grown exponentially since 2022.

Who can qualify: Season 8 paths

Only the top 0.5% of HYROX athletes per season qualify for Worlds. Season 8 (2025/26) qualification combines several routes:

Elite 15: the 15 Elite slots are by invitation only, based on the National Performance Index (NPI). 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at each 2025/26 Major race qualify automatically, with roll-downs if the athlete is already qualified.

Age Group: athletes can qualify at any global HYROX race by finishing in the top places of their age group and division.

Regional Championships: 1st place at each Regional Championship qualifies directly, with roll-downs if already qualified.

The February 2026 qualification policy change

From February 20, 2026, HYROX moved to an 'Initial Offers Only' policy for World Championship qualification. In practice: only the highest-ranked non-qualified athlete or Doubles team in each age group receives an offer for a slot.

This is a significant shift from previous policy. Before, multiple athletes could receive simultaneous offers. Now, offers move sequentially down the rankings. This speeds up cascading offers when athletes decline, but makes championship planning more complex for national teams.

If you're targeting Stockholm qualification, monitor the online qualification portal. Offers expire within 48-72 hours, and released slots can appear through May 2026.

Season 8: record-breaking numbers

Season 8 has already set multiple records. Bangkok 2026 drew 17,500 participants, the largest HYROX event ever held in Asia. Earlier in the season, Glasgow and Copenhagen also broke their respective participation records.

The full Season 8 calendar includes events on all inhabited continents, with qualifying Majors in Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, and expanded presence in the Middle East. The HYROX community now exceeds 500,000 active registered athletes per official federation data.

Format and events at Stockholm

The core format remains the same: 8km of running split into eight 1km segments, with one functional workout station between each running leg. The 8 stations: SkiErg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jump, Rowing, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges, and Wall Balls.

For Elite, Season 8 reference times have tightened. Top athletes are finishing under 56-57 minutes in Elite Men and 63-65 minutes in Elite Women, with standards compressing each season as Elite depth increases.

For Age Group categories, Stockholm will offer the standard divisions (Open, Pro, Mixed Doubles, Single-Gender Doubles) across 5-year age brackets.
