That's not a problem. But going in underprepared is. This plan is for the complete beginner: someone with a baseline of fitness, some gym experience, and a race on the calendar but no clear idea of how to structure the next 10 to 12 weeks.
What HYROX Actually Demands From You
Before you write a single training session, you need to understand the structure of the race. HYROX consists of eight 1-kilometer running segments, each followed by one functional workout station. You run 1km, hit a station, run 1km, hit the next station, and repeat until all eight stations are done. Total distance covered: roughly 8 kilometers of running plus the work at each station.
The eight stations, in order, are:

The format looks manageable on paper. In practice, the compounding fatigue between running and functional work is what breaks beginners. You're not just doing eight exercises. You're doing eight exercises while already aerobically depleted, and then running again immediately after each one.
The Pacing Mistake That Sinks Most Beginners
Here's the single biggest error new HYROX competitors make: they train the stations hard but neglect their running. They spend time mastering wall balls and rowing splits, then show up on race day with no conditioning for running at threshold pace while fatigued.
The result is predictable. The first two or three running segments feel manageable. By run five or six, the pace collapses. The fifth session is your integration session. This is where you combine a 1km run with one or two stations back-to-back, rest, and repeat. Start with three to four run-station combinations and build toward five or six by week eight. The goal is to experience what it feels like to hit a station with your heart rate already elevated from running, then run again immediately after.

Begin tapering properly in week eleven. Reduce total volume by 30 to 40%. Sleep becomes a training variable. So does stress management. The athletes who perform best on race day are rarely the ones who trained hardest in the final week.
Station-Specific Notes for Beginners
A few stations deserve extra attention because they're either technically demanding or disproportionately fatiguing.
Burpee Broad Jumps are the station most beginners underestimate. Eighty meters of burpee broad jumps is genuinely punishing, especially when you're already four kilometers into the race. Wall Balls are the final station and the one that most often ends in a collapsed heap. The combination of leg fatigue, shoulder fatigue, and cardiovascular load at the very end of the race makes this station brutal. Practice wall balls when tired, not fresh. Add them to the end of your integration sessions deliberately.
Sled Push requires specific attention if your gym doesn't have a sled. If you can't train it weekly, substitute heavy prowler push variations or resisted sprint work. The hip drive mechanics transfer reasonably well. But if a sled is available to you, use it every week.

- Sunday: Full rest
Adjust based on your recovery capacity. Five days is a guideline, not a requirement. Two poor sessions are worse than one good one.

Sign up for a local or regional HYROX event as early as possible. The registration deadline creates a concrete target that changes how you train. Abstract goals produce abstract effort. A specific race date produces specific preparation.
HYROX is genuinely hard. It's supposed to be.
